Prior to Verras, Mr. Woods served as Vice President of Operations at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois where he championed numerous operational and quality improvement initiatives resulting in significant increases in quality metrics and cost savings. In addition, he spearheaded organizational wide initiatives to create an environment of operational and service excellence. As a thought leader, he was instrumental in numerous strategic activities. Specifically, he drove the development of program strategies of four service lines: Abdominal organ transplantation, cardio-vascular services, neurosciences and oncology. He was selected to develop a network strategy between the hospital and physician practice plan, as well as, the development of a strategy for collaboration between Northwestern and campus partners.
Mr. Woods led the collaborative effort between physicians and hospital executives in the development a multi-year strategic plan to improve patient experience. He sponsored the execution of this strategy and led an organizational wide employee training and education program. He has developed “real time” survey tools to identify early opportunities for intervention and service recovery.
Over his career span with the University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System and Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Mr. Woods’ leadership style has built and advocated collaborative relationships with physicians. As a leader, Mr. Woods fosters respect, integrity and compassion while balancing clinical quality, financial performance with patient, employee and physician engagement.
Mr. Woods holds a Bachelors of Business Administration in accounting and finance from the University of Iowa College of Business. He received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He has also received an Executive Certificate in Leadership and Management from the University of Notre Dame Mendoza School of Business.
